Balscadden FC 2nds 0-1 St John Vianney
The second team exited the Tom Carroll Cup after a narrow defeat to St John Vianney in Ringcommons.
There was little between the teams in the opening haf, with Balscadden having the better of the possession. However it was the visitors who broke the deadlock on 35 minutes when a charged down clearance fell kindly to the St John Vianney striker who finished confidently.
Balscadden kept plugging away and were largely on top in the second half, but St John Vianney were a threat on the counter and Killian Lynch had to make three fine saves to keep the score at 1-0. Paul Kelly also pulled off a brilliant goal line clearance in the last 15 minutes as the Scad poured forward in search of an equaliser and were occasionally stretched at the back.
It wasn't to be, with a late Sean Kelly volley as close as we came to forcing extra time.
Best for Balscadden were Killian Lynch, Liam Garland, Niall Jordan and Adam Flynn.
