Cloghertown 1-1 Balscadden FC 2nds
The second team were on the road again in LSL Division 3 and played out a tough 1-1 draw with Cloghertown.
Balscadden were well on top in the first 45 minutes with Anthony Ryan and Josh Osborne both excellent on the wings.
We took the lead in the 18ht minute when Philly Cullen won possession and drove goalward. The Cloghertown keeper saved his effort but James Mooney was there to knock home the rebound.
Balscadden were unlucky not to extend their lead after that and it was 1-0 at half-time.
In the second period Cloghertown came on strong. Killian Lynch made two great saves to keep Balscadden ahead but Cloghertown eventually nicked an equaliser just after hour mark when a cross was diverted to the net.
A scrappy, niggly affair almost had a sting in the tail when the hosts were awarded a very harsh penalty in stoppage time. However Killian produced a fantastic save to keep the scores level - and we almost stole the win when Anthony Ryan sparked a counter-attack that very nearly led to a Balscadden winner.
It ended honours even and the lads now look forward to facing St John Vianney in the first round of the Tom Carroll Cup.
