Balscadden FC 2nds 3-1 Whitehall Rangers
The second team produced an excellent performance to battle past Whitehall in Ringcommons and seal a place in the quarter-finals of the Leinster Junior Shield.
In tough, heavy conditions, the game was a battle from the first minute to the last.
Balscadden broke the deadlock on 15 minutes when Josh Osborne whipped in a free-kick from the left that evaded everyone and zipped into the net.
Whitehall responded swiftly - within four minutes, they were level. A well-judged pass sent the visitors' striker through, he rounded the goalkeeper and squeezed it home.
Balscadden responded well to that equaliser and just after the half-hour mark we retook the lead Josh's deep corner was nodded back into the six-yard box by Nathan Rooney and Kevin McKeown guided a good half-volley past the keeper.
The second half required a huge effort as Whitehall piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser. Balscadden defended brilliantly and victory was sealed 15 minutes from time when Daryl Clarke coolly steered home a low finish following a scramble in the Whitehall box.
The lads can now look forward to a last-eight clash in this renowned provincial competition.
