The first team fell to a 2-0 defeat against Cabinteely on Friday night in what was their first game back after the Christmas break.

The hosts started well and took the lead after 20 minutes. In tough conditions the match became a scrappy affair as the league leaders made it difficult for Balscadden to get back into the game.

The visitors pushed on in the second half but Cabinteely countered to grab a secodn goal 15 minutes from time and seal the three points.
