Hibernian FC 2-1 Balscadden FC
The first team are out of the FAI Junior Cup after a battling performance in Waterford ultimately fell short on Sunday.
With a place in the last 32 at stake, Hibs made a fast start. They were inches away from taking the lead on two minutes, and two minutes after that, their pacey No 9 raced through on goal. Chris Evers' last-ditch tackled was judged to be a foul, and though the referee initially flashed a yellow card, that was upgraded to a red after he consulted his linesman.
Balscadden responded well to the setback but they fell behind in the 26th minute after a Hibs player curled a good finish into the left corner.
It was 1-0 at the break as Balscadden kept themselves int he contest and in the 67th minute they drew level - Luke Kimmage forcing home from a corner. Hibs retook the lead just four minutes later however despite Dotty Healy initially making a great save - their attacker followed up to smash home the rebound.
The lads kept going right to the end but they couldn't find another goal and our FAI Junior Cup journey ended for another year.
Best for a spirited Balscadden were Dotty Healy, Colm Mooney and Luke Kimmage.
