The first team came out the right side of a big FAI Junior Cup second-round battle with Enniskerry in Ringcommons on Sunday morning, eventually winning on penalties.

The visitors, two divisions above us in LSL Major Sunday, started brightly, with Balscadden keeper Rob Murray forced into a fine save to keep things scoreless. Enniskerry did however break the deadlock with a good finish that cannoned in off the underside of the crossbar.

A setback, but Balscadden delivered the perfect response as Anto Coates pinged a brilliant crossfield pass to Luke Kimmage on the left wing. He surged past the full-back and sent in a peach of a cross that Sean O'Rourke flicked in with a lovely header.

A gruelling second half ensued in tough conditions, with Balscadden having the better of the chances. Paddy Coates was a threat throughout but the goal never came and so it went to extra-time. And after both teams failed to find the killer goal in a tense extra 30 minutes, it went to spot-kicks.

Rob Murray did the business, pulling off two great saves, allowing Anto Coates, Paddy Coates, Sean O'Rourke and finally Gary English to slot home the penos that sent us into the next round.
