It was a first win of the season for the second team as they deservedly beat Draoicht Titans in the first round of the Leinster Junior Shield in Ringcommons on Saturday.
Balscadden dominated the first half and missed several good chances to break the deadlock, with Josh Osborne, Kevin McKeown, Colm Kiernan and Joe Kiernan all looking threatening.
We missed a penalty after half an hour but continued to push in a strong first half.
Goalless at the break, things were a little cagier on the turnaround.
However the decisive goal finally arrived 18 minutes from time when Joe Kiernan lofted a nice ball over the top and Daryl Clarke unleashed a terrific volley that flew into the top corner.
Draoicht Titans did turn the screw in the closing stages with a series of corners and long throws but the back four of Ryan Whelan, Nathan Rooney, Paul Kelly and Dan Byrner held firm as we closed out the win.
