The second team were narrowly beaten by Cloghertown in their opening game of the LSL Division 3 season on Monday night. Balscadden had the lion's share of possession in the first half, with Harry Gaffney looking threatening down the right and Josh Osborne testing the keeper with a couple of efforts from distance. Cloghertown were dogged and occasionally dangerous on the counter - Killian Lynch did well to keep the game scoreless with a good save ten minutes before half-time.
The second half started in a similar vein to the first but Cloghertown took the lead out of nowhere on 55 minutes when the ball broke over 40 yards out and their midfielder's snap shot found the net. Balscadden were reduced to ten men soon after that but went up a gear and were unlucky not to snatch an equaliser, with George Parm going closest after good link-up play involving himself and Dotty Healy. A frustrating night but one that left us with positives to take into Saturday's trip to Greenhills/Greenpark. Best for Balscadden were Joe Kiernan, Harry Gaffney and George Parm.
